You could have a serious issue with your Deltek Cobra backup! If you have an Ampersand in your Cobra project name, you could have a problem with your Deltek Cobra backup.
I recently discovered an interesting defect in the Backup tool while working in the latest version of Deltek Cobra 5.1, build 5.01.246, HotFix #03. It also turns out to be an issue with earlier versions too. So far I’ve seen it as far back as Build 5.00.845. Don’t use an ampersand in your project name if you’re planning to ever have to restore it from a backup file someday. It won’t work.
An ampersand in the name causes the following error to appear right at the bottom of the backup log. This error means your CMP file is no good and you won’t be able to restore the project. Not good, unless you know about it and can act accordingly before it becomes an issue.
“An error occurred while parsing EntityName. Line 7, position 31.”
If you do try to restore the CMP file, you get the following error accompanied by a blank Select Files to Restore dialog.
Workaround
The workaround for this almost goes without saying, but I would rename any projects with an ampersand to something without an ampersand. Then do a backup. Alternatively, don’t use the backup tool, just use Save As to keep a copy in your project list.
Check your projects folks to see if you have any with an ampersand. You should test all your Deltek Cobra backup CMP files to be sure.
